Children stage street play at Rly station to spread awareness on drug abuse

New Delhi: Keeping in mind the fact that 'drug abuse' in children is a major concern and most affected are those kids who live on the streets of the national capital, Delhi Police took the help of Nukkad Natak to generate awareness at railway stations. The city police also celebrated Valentine's Day with the vulnerable children to motivate them.
Police sources claimed that in most of the cases they found that when children went missing or ran away from their homes they reached railway stations and without any money, they started doing odd jobs like rag picking and came under the influence of drugs like sniffing glue which harms their body.
In another instance, the city police during the investigation of several criminal cases observed that the accused had committed snatching to fulfill their drug addiction. In order to protect children from the drug abuse and to stop crime, police took help of street plays.
Once such street play was organised at New Delhi railway station where the children from street spread awareness about drug abuse in the children.
Different railway stations in the national Capital will also see different street plays as most of the street children lives nearby area and they are more vulnerable to drug abuse. Helped by ACP Meera Sharma and SHO (New Delhi) Akash Rawat, these children showcased the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) Perwez Ahmed told Millennium Post that the reason behind the street play near railway station was to generate mass awareness. "Passengers, coolie and other people witnessed the play and we want to root out drug abuse in children," said the DCP.
The meaning of Valentine's Day for Delhi Police was to bring the smile on the face of 600 underprivileged children. The non-traditional' Valentine's Day was the most endearing way of loving, sharing and caring for all.
"With street children, other kids having good economic background joined the celebration demolishing the social and economic divide between the slum dwellers and the affluent or the rich and poor," police said. East Malviya Nagar RWA also helped police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Romil Baaniya motivated all these children and shared initiatives run by Delhi Police like Yuva skills training and invited them to join the training programme to change their lives.
Through Twitter DCP South Delhi tweeted "Let's be d change we want to see in d world, Celebrating this #Valentine's Day with underprivileged kids, a unique prog. participated by more than 700 children org. wid #PoliceMitra #RWA East Malviya Nagar #SouthDistrict."
