CCTV project a scam, says Maken

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Monday said that the project to install CCTV cameras in Delhi initiated by the AAP government was a big scam and to cover up the scam, the AAP government is making use of its quarrels with the LG.
The ruling AAP dismissed Maken's remarks as "frivolous" and accused the Delhi Congress of acting as BJP's "B team.".
Maken said on 13 October 2015 approval was given for a Rs 130-crore project to install CCTV cameras in Delhi for which a tender was floated in November 2017 and two bids were received. Out of these two bids, one was successful. But this tender was cancelled and on 6 February 2018, approval was given for a fresh tender with modified conditions for a Rs 571.40-crore project.
In the new tender, 44 per cent of the project cost that is Rs 250 crore was set aside for the maintenance of the CCTV cameras. This meant that out of the total capital cost, 78 per cent was earmarked for maintenance of the CCTV cameras.
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj replied on Twitter, "Maken ji, I just fail to understand that CCTV tender has been won by lowest bidder which is a Central Govt PSU called BEL. Now how will any tender conditions lead to corruption?"
