CBI books cop for taking Rs 1.75L bribe

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked an inspector of the Delhi Police District Investigation Unit (DIU) in a Rs 1.75 lakh bribery case, where the accused officer allegedly promised to get a good chargesheet filed on behalf of the complainant. The probe agency has registered the case against Sharat Kohli, posted in Pitampura, Outer District.

According to the CBI's case against Kohli, the complainant had filed a police complaint regarding a knife attack where he was the victim. The complainant's case was later transferred to the DIU, where the accused officer was assigned to investigate the matter.

According to the complainant, Kohli demanded Rs 1.75 lakh as bribe amount for himself and one public prosecutor.

Kohli allegedly said that he will make sure that a solid chargesheet is filed against the complainant's alleged assailant and that the public prosecutor will also oppose the assailant's bail plea in another case enthusiastically. The complainant did not want to pay the bribe and hence made a written complaint to the central probe agency.
