New Delhi: In a sensational broad daylight robbery in Delhi, three bike-borne gunmen shot dead a security guard and the custodian of a cash van in Narela. The gunmen fired around 20 rounds killing both the men on the spot. They managed to flee with the cash box which had close to Rs 12 lakh.
Cashier Rajnikant and security guard Prem Kumar of the SIS cash van came to pick up cash from a wine shop at SSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) industrial area in Narela near Vardhaman Mall at around 2:30 pm on Thursday. Little did they know that they are on target of bike-borne men who are anxiously waiting for them. As soon as they came out of the van, they came under a volley of bullets from the assailants.
Sources said that at least 20 rounds were fired. Several bullets hit the two men who fell on the ground. Before anyone could respond, the three men who had covered their faces with helmets brandished their weapons and fired indiscriminately to instil fear among the bystanders. They were quick enough to offload the cash box and flee on the bikes. The people immediately called the police and rushed the two men to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. They had received multiple bullet injuries. Robbers fled with Rs 12 lakh inside the cash box. "As the incident occurred close to the Haryana border, there is a possibility of Haryana based criminals doing it. We also suspect that some insider may be involved in the crime, who may have given the information," said Rajnish Gupta, DCP Rohini.
Considering the gravity of crime Delhi Police Crime Branch and Special Cell have also been associated with the case. Police is now scanning the CCTV of the area to get some clue of the bikers. Cops suspect that the same group of criminals might be behind the attack which led a futile attempt to rob a cash van in Shahbad Dairy on Tuesday.
