New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman was killed and her daughter injured when their scooty allegedly got hit by a speeding car in South Delhi's Moti Bagh on Saturday.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Ranjeet Kaur, who died during treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre, while her daughter Navneet Kaur (23), has sustained injuries to her face, hands, and leg.
The car driver allegedly ran away from the spot, leaving the car behind.
According to police, the mother-daughter duo lives at their house in West Delhi's Vishnu Garden. Navneet is pursuing a fashion designing course at a local college while her mother used to be a housewife.
Police said that the accident took place around 4.45pm when the duo was returning from the house of Ranjeet's parents in Govindpuri. Both had been staying there for two days to attend a function.
On Saturday evening, they were on their way back to their house in west Delhi's Vishnu Garden, when the two-wheeler they were riding, allegedly got hit by the car in Moti Bagh.
"Navneet, who was driving the two-wheeler, fell on the ground and got injuries on face, hands, and legs. Ranjeet, who was riding pillion, allegedly got crushed under the tires of the car," police said.
The police have said that while the mother-daughter duo was traveling, a speeding Ecco car which was trying to overtake them had hit the scooty from behind around 1:50 pm.
The public pulled out Navneet and Ranjeet from under the car. Their faces, hands, and legs had injury marks.
Despite being injured, Navneet managed to take out her phone and call her relatives. One of these relatives informed the police. Both Navneet and Ranjeet were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre by the police.
