Car battery lifter held, 101 batteries recovered

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has recovered 101 car batteries, and solved 21 cases of car battery theft. The police have arrested a man identified as Aftab, a resident of Mandawali. Aftab was absconding and was known to be an important member of the battery thieves gang who loved to drive at high speed after stealing batteries from cars parked on roads and in colonies.

He has been arrested from Badarpur in South-East Delhi. "Accused Aftab was an important member of the gang. He would transport the stolen batteries in car from the spot. He told that he could drive his

Swift car at the speed of 150 kilometres per hour after loading it fully with the batteries he lifted," said DCP South-East Chinmoy Biswal.

The accused has also revealed that after the arrest of his fellow gang members he started to committing these thefts alone. After the police arrested his associates and had seized his Santro car, Aftab purchased a second hand Swift car to transport the stolen

batteries after committing the theft. He used to target cars parked on the road side. He used to steal 20-25 batteries every night and sold them to different junk dealers in Gaziabad, Hapur and Meerut.
