NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested three robbers who specifically robbed showrooms in Delhi's Connaught Place and that too, with the help of a hired taxi. The police recovered a Tata Indica and some branded clothes from the possession of the accused, stolen in the wee hours from CP. The cops were continuously getting information of thefts in Delhi's posh Connaught Place. All the police could gather was that the burglars came in a taxi, broke the doors and left with the stolen goods in the taxi itself.
During the investigation, the CCTV footage of the showrooms and nearby area were collected by the police team. Around 20-25 CCTV cameras footage of inner circle of Connaught Place were analysed. The analysis of the CCTV footage revealed that in each incident three persons came in between 3 am and 5 am in a Tata hatchback with 1,425 as the last four digits of a white number plate. Two of them broke the locks of branded showrooms with the help of a cutter and other equipment. They entered the showroom and stole the items. After that, all the three persons escaped in the same Tata hatchback car. The three men were identified as Raju Paneer Silvam, 57 years, Sanjeev Kumar, 48 years, Nandu Rawat, 32 years. They were found in the car after police laid a trap on May 20. On inspection of the car, one big cutter and other house and lock breaking equipment were found.
"Nandu was earlier associated with a cab company. Now, he hired the taxi privately for thefts and travelled with his group to commit burglaries in the area of New Delhi," said a senior police officer.
"During interrogation, the accused disclosed that in 2017 they were arrested in a burglary case of Rohini and after release from the jail, they had changed their residences. In April 2018 they again met and planned to work together," said Madhur Verma, DCP New Delhi.
