Burglar injured after security guard fires to frighten them

New Delhi: To frighten burglars, a 55-year old security guard, posted at the construction site in Narela, fired in the air and the bullet hit one of the burglar's thigh on March 5.

Police said that the case came to light after the injured was admitted in the hospital. Police said that at about 11 pm on March 5, two burglars entered one construction site in Narela.

One of the burglars jumped the boundary and the other one was standing outside.

"When the burglar lifted an iron bar, the security guard at the site raised an alarm and he immediately jumped outside. The watchman fired one round in the air," police said.

DCP (outer north) Gaurav Sharma said that both the burglars fled the spot. "The guard was unaware whether the bullet hit someone or not so no information was given to police nor any PCR call was made regarding the incident," said DCP Sharma.

But one of the burglars who was later identified as Amit (22) got accidentally hit and sustained bullet injury on the thigh.

"He fell on a nearby vacant place and his associate Ashu (28) didn't even inform the family of injured. In the evening of March 8, the injured burglar Amit was hospitalised after being noticed by some passersby and is undergoing treatment," police added.

During the investigation, it was found that the only armed guard deployed at the identified as Lal Bahadur had fired one round to frighten the burglars which accidentally hit Amit while he was standing behind the iron tin.

"The injured Amit is previously involved and convicted in two theft cases. His associate Ashu, is also involved in one hurt, two theft and one robbery case. Facts reported are being verified and Legal action will be taken accordingly in the matter," police said.
