BSF jawan shoots colleague dead in Gzb
Ghaziabad: Following a minor scuffle, a constable with Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly shot dead his colleague with his service rifle at a camp in Ghaziabad, early Monday morning, said police.
Cops said the jawans belongs to 95th battalion of BSF based in Gurugram, and had been deployed in Ghaziabad to aid police to deal with the farmers' protest.
"The incident took place around 6 am at a temporary camp in Bal Bharti School in Link road area of Ghaziabad. Constable Ajit fatally shot two bullets from his INSAS rifle in the right side of his batchmate Jagpreet Singh's head," said Rakesh Kumar Mishra, circle officer (Sahibabad).
Senior officials of Ghaziabad police and BSF reached the spot to probe the matter.
Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police, said that an altercation had erupted between the two constables on Sunday night.
"Prima facie investigations suggested that a minor scuffle broke out between the two constables, following which, Ajit allegedly pulled the trigger and opened fire on his colleague. The accused constable is under police custody and probe into the matter is on," said Krishna.
The officer further said that both the constables were batchmates and had joined the paramilitary in 2012.
Both were initially friendly to each other and used to spend most of their time together.
"Other constables of their battalion told us that both were friends and stayed in the same room of the school. We are interrogating the arrested to know the exact reason why and how the incident took place. Even the BSF has ordered an inquiry into the incident," added Krishna.
