Blame game over, now development must start: Cong

New Delhi: The Supreme Court verdict on the power tussle between the Delhi government and the centre has done away with all the possibilities of a "blame game" between the BJP and the AAP and the two parties should now ensure that the development of the national capital, which was "stalled" for years, should start again, the Congress said on Wednesday.

In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court held that Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal did not have independent decision-making powers and that he was bound to act on the aid and advice of the council of ministers.

"Since the apex court has clarified about the powers in Delhi, we hope that the development, which has been stalled ever since the Congress was voted out of power over four years ago, will start again," said Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken.

Maken said that the elected Kejriwal government should get down to doing development works, instead of indulging in "dharna-demonstration-demand" gimmicks.

"If Kejriwal cannot deliver, then he should resign," Maken said, adding that "Delhi will gain nothing if Kejriwal keeps on demanding more powers, without using the powers already within his purview, for the development of Delhi."

He further said that Kejriwal, whose attendance of the Delhi Assembly sessions was a mere 10 per cent, should now have 100 per cent attendance and he should also regularly attend the CM's office at the Players' Building, which Kejriwal had been rarely attending.

The Delhi Congress chief said that now, there should not be any charges and counter-charges by the CM and the LG.

"There was a peculiar situation in Delhi, as LG claims that he has not put any roadblock in the functioning of the AAP government, whereas Arvind Kejriwal has been blaming the LG for all the stalled development works in Delhi.

"LG says that he has cleared all the files on Mohalla Clinics, wages of Anganwadi workers, though he claims he has not received the CCTV camera installation files. LG says he has no pending files with him while Kejriwal says that the files which have been sent to the LG have not been cleared," Maken added.
