BJP protests against water, power shortage in Janakpuri
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday gathered several party workers in Janakpuri assembly constituency to take out a protest against the state government, for lack of water and electricity supply in the Capital city. Speaking at the protest, former SDMC mayor Narendra Chawla held Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responsible for problems faced by residents due to the serious lack of water supply. Chawla said that the water-tanker mafia was taking advantage of people's troubles and extorting exuberant amounts of money from them in exchange for providing water.
In a statement, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation claimed that residents of Sitapuri and Milap Nagar wards are not getting nearly enough water supply and that this was due to the incompetence of the local MLA in the region and the Delhi government at large. The statement went on to say that whatever drinking water is made available for residents, ends up being laced with sewer water, causing serious health problems for whoever consumes it. As a mark of protest, women from the BJP's women's wing broke empty water-pots and also burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister. SDMC councilors for Sitapuri and Milap Nagar were also present at the protest.
