BJP misleading people of Delhi on full-statehood: Gopal Rai
NEW DELHI: A day after Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari in his Twitter Choupal reportedly said that the Supreme Court refused to grant complete statehood to Delhi, AAP slammed the BJP claiming that the party has tried to confuse people of Delhi on the issue of full-statehood.
As per media reports, responding to a question on the issue of full statehood, Tiwari on Friday said that the BJP never took a U-turn on the issue but the Supreme Court made it clear that it cannot be done.
"Six weeks since the Aam Aadmi Party launched its intensive campaign demanding full statehood for Delhi, a rattled, confused and desperate BJP has been resorting to daily lies in an unsuccessful attempt to divert attention fearing that it stands fully exposed before the people of Delhi and will not be able to face them during the Lok Sabha elections," a party statement noted.
Delhi AAP convenor Gopal Rai said, "I am saying with full responsibility that Manoj Tiwari is completely lying and misleading the people of Delhi. I am placing before you the Supreme Court judgments of 4th July 2018 of the five-judge Constitution Bench and 14th February 2019 of the two judges bench."
AAP challenged Manoj Tiwari to show which case regarding full statehood for Delhi was filed in the Supreme Court and when.
"Who filed the case and what was the Supreme Court judgment in the Delhi statehood case? He should put that judgment in the public domain? Is Manoj Tiwari not even aware that full statehood for Delhi will be granted by parliament through a Constitutional amendment bill, like the one which was presented by LK Advani in the parliament in August 2003, or is he deliberately misleading the people of Delhi?" asked Rai.
He added that Manoj Tiwari claimed Delhi can't be granted statehood since Arvind Kejriwal sat on a dharna outside Rail Bhawan in January 2014, then why did his party promise statehood for Delhi in March 2014, when BJP released a Delhi-specific manifesto? "What is BJP's stand on statehood for Delhi, is what Manoj Tiwari is saying is the official stand of BJP? AAP will not allow the BJP to escape its decades of false promises with the people of Delhi and its ultimate treachery with Delhiites," said Rai.
