BJP fields Sudhir Singla from Gurugram seat

Gurugram: The BJP on Wednesday night appointed Sudhir Singla as the nominee from Gurugram Vidhan Sabha seat. An advocate by profession Sudhir is the son of Sitaram Singla. Sitaram Singla was the first BJP MLA from Gurugram in 1987. He is also credited with expanding the BJP in Haryana and was heading the Haryana unit that had Prime Minister Narendra Modi reported when he was working to increase its members for the saffron party. Even though Singla was an active member of RSS it was only in February 2019 when he officially joined BJP.

A resident of Sector-15, Singla wants to focus on improving the road infrastructure and reducing traffic jams, a problem which he feels is the main cause of pollution in Gurugram. "In our five years of governance, a lot of work has been done in improving the infrastructure of the city. Yet, there is a lot needs to be done I will focus on improving the infrastructure of the city that will help in a great deal in reducing the pollution," said Singla.

Singla also added that he wanted to focus on improving the water harvesting systems in the city and make a contribution to replenishing the groundwater reserves in the city. "Gurugram may have grown as a city but this has resulted in the exploitation of our water resources. There is a need to work in the area where the city does face water shortage in the future," he added.

Even though Singla was not directly involved in politics he has been a part of various social activities. He also accompanied his father in various political fucntions and was in touch with not only regional but even the national leaders. His father passed away on January 1 this year in Gurugram and his funeral was attended by the Prime Minister.

Sudhir Singla replaces Umesh Aggarwal who had won with a handsome margin in the 2014 elections. Aggarwal's wife will now be contesting as an independent candidate from the Gururgam seat.
