BJP, Cong now gear up for assembly polls in Haryana

Gurugram: With an impressive showing in the general elections, party workers of both BJP and Congress have begun bracing for the assembly elections that are slated to be held in four months. The excitement among the people regarding the state elections reflected from the afternoon of May 23 itself when various top leaders of BJP started asking what will happeb if the polls are held earlier.

Replying to the query, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar said that the decision of holding the elections early was not in their mind. He said that he also took cognisance that the state elections being held with states of Maharashtra, Jharkhand and even Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, with only four months left for the state polls, the leaders, as well as the workers of the parties, have begun their preparations.

Recently the CM raised the issue of falling groundwater reserves in the areas of South Haryana. He spoke of the measures that will be taken by his government to replenish the groundwater reserves in the areas in and around Gurugram.

Besides falling, groundwater other factors that are expected to come up in the upcoming assembly elections will be infrastructure, power and water supply, degradation of Arvallis and a rising crime against women. The significance of BJP can be gauged from the fact that in 2014 the winning margin of Umesh Aggarwal from the seat was the highest in the state that time. This was for the first time that BJP had won only one assembly seat in Gurugram.

A day after a drubbing in Haryana, Ashok Tanwar, the Congress President, said, "This was an election where the personality trumped over the issues. However, we will not lose heart and will be begun preparing for assembly polls. We will definitely perform better in the state elections."
