Beat cops keeping a database of motorcycles

New Delhi: To curb snatching in the National Capital, Delhi Police have directed all its beat officers to keep a tab on the motorcycles in the area.
Police sources said they are preparing a database of all the motorcycles in the area they operate. It further said that beat staffs now visiting houses in the area and if they found any motorcycle standing would ask the details from the residents about it. "We checked the papers of the motorcycles and also aware them about safety and security of the area," police sources claimed.
The drive has been started and every morning the beat officers visit their area and also making a chart regarding about how many vehicles they have checked and the report of the visit was sent to senior officials of the concerned district. The report has the owner name and other details.
The sources further claimed that they have seen the use of high-end motorcycles for snatching cases. "In many past cases, we have found that the snatcher used robbed motorcycles to commit the crime and if they are questioned they are not able to give a satisfactory reply. The initiative can help us to check whether any stolen motorcycle is being used and parked in any house," said a police official.
In Central Delhi area, beat officers have been visiting both posh and clusters area to check the motorcycles. The Police data claimed that around 8,428 cases of snatching were reported in the year 2016 whereas in the year 2017 city witnessed 7,669 cases of snatching till November 15. Police claimed that more than 50 percent cases of snatching were solved last year.
