Bank robbery bid goes awry, 2 guards bludgeoned to death
Noida: In a robbery attempt gone wrong at Punjab National Bank's circle office in Sector-1 of Noida on early Friday morning, two private security guards deployed at the bank were killed after they resisted the two robbers.
Noida Police officials said that the two accused attacked the guards with iron rods and sharp objects over half a dozen times.
According to police, the incident occurred between 2 am and 4 am on Friday, but was reported to cops early in the morning. When the gardener tried to enter the bank's premises, he did not get any response from the guards despite making several attempts. He immediately alerted the branch manager, who reported the incident to the police.
"As the information was conveyed, a police team rushed to the spot and upon opening the gate, we found the two guards lying in a pool of blood in the guard room at main gate," said Ajay Pal Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Noida.
"The bodies were later sent for the post mortem after doctors confirmed them dead," he added.
Cops added that the deceased guards were identified as Mudrika Prasad (50), a resident of Delhi, and Mukesh (35) native of Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri District.
Both the men had been working as security guards for the last few years.
The SSP further said that the assailants barged into the campus after climbing a wall in the back side of bank and attacked the guards several times with blunt object when they resisted the robbery.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the attackers struck sharp objects on the heads of both the guards that led to their deaths. As of now, we are not sure about how many robbers were involved in the incident. But the CCTV footage captured two masked men, aged between 17 to 22, roaming suspiciously inside the bank at the time of incident," added Sharma.
Police said that before escaping from the spot, the assailants broke open the door of the bank manager's office and took away one of the DVRs of the CCTV so as to avoid detection. However, there was anothere CCTV camera which caught them in the act.
Meanwhile, senior police officials claimed that the robbers failed to take away any cash or valuables from the bank.
"The attackers failed to break the strong room located on the basement of the bank building. No robbery has been reported, although the accused attempted it but failed to execute. The suspects have been identified and investigation is underway. We are soon expecting to make a breakthrough," Sharma said.
