Bajrang Dal leader shot at by cow smugglers, critical

Gurugram: A cow vigilante who is also the Manesar District Convenor of Bajrang Dal, was critically injured after being shot in his chest while chasing alleged cow smugglers in Gururgam on wee hours of Thursday.

The victim, identified as Monu, has been admitted at a private multispecialty hospital in the city where he is getting treatment.

An FIR in the matter has been registered by the Gurugram police and the law enforcement official has begun the hunt to catch the criminals who are still at large. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred at around 3 am near Bhondsi where the cow vigilantes along with the Gurugram police were waiting to arrest them after receiving a tip-off.

After being directed to stop, the cantor did not stop and raced away. It was chased till Sector -10 area where after a brief stoppage, the assailants fired at Monu and fled away from the spot.

"We were informed that few cow smugglers were carrying cattle in their van and some cow vigilantes followed the van and informed the police about the same. Police also followed the smugglers' van. On the way, the smugglers started throwing the cattle from the van in order to stop the police and vigilantes," said Rajeev Deswal, DCP (Crime)Abhishek Gaur, in-charge of Bajrang Dal, Manesar said the chase started from a location close to Bhondsi in

Gurugram.

"When they reached near Sector 10, the cow smugglers stopped their vehicle. When Monu and his friends got out of their car to surround the mini truck, one of the smugglers shot at him in the chest," Gaur said.
