Authorities struggle to clear water-logged Ggn underpass

Gurugram: Tuesday's downpour in Gurugram caused the Hero Chowk underpass to choke under 25-feet deep rainwater, which was pumped out after civic authorities had to labour for over 30 hours.

Such was the condition that public officials had to use a boat to survey the situation and then pump out water.

The challenge can be gauged from the fact that in 12 hours, only nine feet of water could be pumped out and throughout Wednesday, the newly-constructed underpass was out of bounds for the commuters.

The Hero Chowk underpass is an important point of connectivity between Sector-9 and Sohna Road. These two areas, being a hub of MNCs and industries, witnesses heavy traffic.

Gurugram's inability to deal with heavy rains came to the fore on Tuesday, after the downpour exposed the flaws in Millennium City's infrastructure.

Intense rainfall, from 3.30 am to 7 am, on Tuesday was enough for major roads of the city to be filled with water that was as deep as two to three feet, with the city's underpasses being the worst affected.
