‘Attack was direct attempt to assassinate Arvind Kejriwal’
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP of orchestrating a fatal attack on its national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, during an election campaign in the New Delhi constituency. Armed with video evidence and photographs, AAP leaders claimed that the attackers had close ties to BJP leader Parvesh Verma and alleged police complicity in the incident.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal condemned the attack, stating, “The kind of violence seen in this campaign is unprecedented. They are losing elections badly and resorting to deadly attacks. My life is dedicated to the country and society, and I will continue to focus on development and welfare.”
The attackers were identified as individuals with extensive criminal records, including charges of robbery, dacoity, and attempted murder. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi presented video evidence linking the attackers to BJP campaigns. One assailant, Rahul alias ‘Shanky,’ was shown in images alongside Parvesh Verma. Atishi said, “Rahul has a history of criminal activities, including dacoity and grievous hurt. He has been sent specifically to attack Arvind Kejriwal.”
Another attacker, Rohit Tyagi, has been involved in multiple cases, including attempted culpable homicide. “Photos of Tyagi show him campaigning with BJP leaders. He is a hardened criminal with serious charges against him,” Atishi added. A third attacker, Sumit, also has cases of dacoity and attempts to harm people.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia alleged, “The BJP is terrified of Arvind Kejriwal’s rising popularity. Fearing defeat, they are now plotting his murder. Why hasn’t
the accused been arrested? Amit Shah, Delhi Police is under you. Is supporting these accused part of BJP’s politics?”
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused BJP of complicity in the attack. “The attack was a direct attempt to assassinate Arvind Kejriwal. If the police were not complicit, these goons would have been arrested by now,” he said. Singh further criticised the Election Commission for its inaction, saying, “There is ample evidence against BJP goons, but no FIR has been registered. The BJP, terrified of losing, is now resorting to bloodshed.”
