ATM uprooted, looted of Rs 40 lakh in Gurugram

Gurugram: Beginning January this year, the robbers have successful uprooted five ATMs and decamped with machine loaded with hard currency.
The latest incident was reported from Manesar where the burglars successful uprooted the ATM machine and decamped with it.
The daring act of uprooting ATM machines and taking it away with them has become a major challenge for law enforcement officials in Gurugram.
It was later found that the ATM kiosk did not have a security guard for over three months, a major lapse that was perfectly exploited by the robbers.
Moreover, CCTVs were also not able to capture the images of the robbery.
Despite various failures, most of the robbers are targeting the ATMs.
These acts of robbery are being committed frequently not only in desolate areas but also in posh areas.
Taking cognisance of the major law and order challenge, the Deputy Commissioner office earlier this year had directed that all the ATMs must install the CCTV cameras.
Another major challenge that seems to plague the city is the rise in cyber crime cases. There are over 1,300 ATMs operational in the city.
