Aspiring actor, his associate arrested in cheating case

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday said that they have arrested two cheaters including an aspiring actor for cheating a man on the pretext of old torn currency notes.

Police identified the accused as Shahid (24) alias Raj Singhania and Hemraj (44). Both were arrested from Badarpur area.

"Shahid wanted to be a Hero in Bhojpuri films. He even tried his luck in the film but failed," added an official.

On August 8, complainant Manoj Kumar Sahani stated that the accused Raj Singhania called him for tile work at Badarpur.

"The complainant stated that during the meeting, Raj Singhania gave him two torn old notes of Rs 2,000 each and stated that since the notes are in filthy condition, he was unable to use them," police said.

Singhania exchanged both the notes in lieu of Rs 2,000 from the complainant. The complainant was able to easily use those notes in the market.

Later, alleged Raj Singhania told the complainant that he has similar notes amounting to Rs 6 lakh and since he was in the urgent need of money, he can give those notes to the complainant for Rs 3 lakh only. The complainant exchanged the notes amounting to Rs. 6 lakhs in lieu of Rs 3 lakh.

"He took the bundle with him and reached his home. When he opened the packet, he found that on the top of the bundle there was a genuine note but inside the bundle, there were Children's Bank or Churan wale notes," police said.

Accused Singhaniya, last year, started his acting school at Nizamuddin. He had appointed female staff at his office and paid them Rs 10,000 per month. The other accused Hemraj was working as barber cum massager at the acting school.

"Accused Shahid disclosed that it was very difficult to bear the expenses of the acting school. Accused Shahid along with his employee Hemraj and one known person namely Salman hatched a conspiracy to cheat people on the pretext of old torn currency notes," said DCP (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal.
