ASI critical as drunk driver runs him over in south Delhi

NEW DELHI: Under the influence of alcohol, the driver of a Toyota Camry struck an Assistant Sub Inspector of Delhi Police and left him injured critically in south Delhi's Panchsheel Enclave late Tuesday night.
The ASI, identified as Harender Singh, has been admitted to AIIMS where he is undergoing treatment.
Doctors said that he has suffered a fracture in his hand and right leg.
On the intervening night of May 1 and 2, the cops received a call at around 2 am that a car has wounded a policeman at Panchsheel Enclave.
Soon, the police teams reached the spot and found the injured ASI, who was soon taken to the hospital and admitted. The speed of the car was such that it rammed into the barricade just after it hit Harender.
Harender also suffered injuries to his head and face. He was near the barricade when the incident happened.
"Our investigation revealed that the car was driven by one Harsh Vardhan, a resident of NDSE-1. He was driving the car in a negligent manner. We have booked him for rash and negligent driving. A case under section 279 and 337 of the IPC and section of the 185 Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against the driver of the car," said Romil Baaniya, DCP (South).
The police also said that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Moreover, investigation revealed that another occupant was in the car, who has been identified as Shobhit, and was also under the influence of alcohol.
Investigation revealed that the arrested driver Harsh Vardhan is pursuing BBA from a private university. His father has a transport business.
