As air quality worsens, construction banned in Ggm
Gurugram: With the air of Gurugram deteriorating by the day, the graded response action plan (GRAP) is also being implemented in the city. Now under this plan, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has banned the construction activities in Gurugram till December 31.
The municipal body has also warned residents of not burning the waste in the open failing which their officials would take action against them. On day one the priority of the district administration was to reduce the pollution caused by ensuring there is a smooth flow of traffic. A team headed by the deputy commissioner has selected 47 spots where the pollution is considered to be relatively high as compared to other places. Out of the 47 spots, there are 18 have been identified as spots by the officials where the pollutions are high because of the traffic congestion.
In these areas, there has been extra personnel from the Gurugram traffic police that has been deployed to ensure that there is a smooth flow of the traffic. Some of these areas are Kherki Dhaula toll pass, Sirhaul Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Bandhwari toll, Dwarka expressway, Sohna road, and Pataudi road. It is estimated that 30 percent of Gurugram pollution is caused due to dust pollution. Besides the closure of the construction activities mechanised sweeping of the roads, a sprinkling of water on the roads and the plans is also to be undertaken by the government agencies.
In 2018 also during the month of December and January when the air levels plummeted to hazardous levels, these measures were being carried out on a large scale not only by the officials of the MCG but also by the personnel of the Gurugram fire service. Though not fully the team headed by the Deputy Commissioner has also stated that they will try to make sure that there is minimum usage of diesel generators.
On Tuesday the air levels in Gurugram had a particulate matter of 10 microns to 500 micrograms per cubic meter and the more dangerous PM2.5 was recorded at 270 with the age limit being 60.
