Arvind Kejriwal’s big charge: BJP handing out gold chains for votes

New Delhi: As Delhi heads toward crucial elections, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly trying to buy votes in Delhi through the distribution of gold chains, cash, and other incentives. At a press conference, Kejriwal appealed to the people of Delhi to reject these efforts, emphasising that their votes are “more valuable than a diamond.”
Kejriwal accused BJP leaders of distributing gold chains to voters in select areas but claimed that the party leaders were pocketing most of the items intended for the public. “Now, it has come to light that they are distributing gold chains in a few colonies. However, even in this, their leaders have pocketed the gold chains, and the anger among the public is rising,” Kejriwal stated. He further explained that the BJP’s leaders are not giving the gold chains directly to the people, instead only providing them to those who approach their offices or confront them about the promises made.
The AAP chief also revealed that similar tactics have been used in distributing cash and other goods. “The BJP sent ₹10,000 to distribute, but their leaders kept ₹9,000 for themselves and distributed only ₹1,000 to the people. As this truth emerges, the public
is outraged,” he said, describing how the BJP’s leaders are openly misappropriating funds meant for the public.
Kejriwal also criticised the BJP for distributing goods like blankets, sarees, shoes, and bedsheets selectively to certain colonies while neglecting others. “Blankets were sent for distribution, but they gave them to just one colony, ignoring the others. Now, people in the neighbouring colonies are furious and asking, ‘Where are our blankets?’” Kejriwal said, explaining how these actions have angered residents across the city.
Despite these efforts, Kejriwal urged voters to prioritise their future and the future of their children. “Your vote determines the destiny of your children and this country. Vote for anyone you wish, but never for those who attempt to buy your vote,” he implored, reinforcing that the integrity of the election process is more important than the handouts being offered.
Kejriwal’s comments were a direct response to the BJP’s attempts to sway voters with material incentives. He pointed out that BJP leaders are openly admitting to their strategy, saying, “We will buy Delhi’s votes.” In response, Kejriwal strongly urged Delhiites to reject these manipulative tactics, stating, “I appeal to the people of Delhi, Take whatever they are distributing, but under no circumstances should you sell your vote. Our vote is extremely precious, more valuable than diamonds.”
Further intensifying his criticism, Kejriwal remarked that the BJP’s actions reflect a deep disrespect for democracy. “These are traitors to the nation. They are trying to buy the country. They have become so arrogant that they believe they can purchase this nation,” he said, calling for an end to such practices.
Kejriwal concluded by urging Delhiites to set an example for the rest of the country. “This system needs to be changed. They want to come to power, earn money dishonestly, buy votes, and win elections. We all have to uproot this system. This time, the people of Delhi will set an example for the entire nation. Delhi is a city of decent, good, and civilized people. These individuals believe they can buy the people of Delhi,” he said.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia echoed Kejriwal’s sentiment on social media, calling out the BJP’s arrogance and claiming, “Even Ravana’s ego could not survive, then what is this ‘Gaali-Galoch Party’? The people of Delhi are not for sale.”
