Army officer's dismembered body found on railway track

New Delhi: The body of an Army officer was found in two pieces on a railway track in Sadar Bazar area of North Delhi on Monday.

Police said that the initial investigation hints at suicide but they are waiting for the postmortem report. The deceased's father suspects foul play in the case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said that they received a call around 11.20 am on Monday. Police later identified the deceased as Captain Diwakar Puri attended training in Lucknow and was returning to Delhi on Shramjeevi Express.

Investigator told Millennium Post that Railway Protection Force (RPF) received information on Monday morning regarding luggage found in the compartment of a railway coach.

"During the search of one of the bags i-card of Diwakar Puri found. Later Delhi Police was informed about the luggage," the investigator said.

Police said that meanwhile, the family members of the deceased, who were searching Diwakar Puri, reached railway post and asked officials regarding FIR and CCTV scanning in the case.

In the meantime, information was received regarding the body. The family were shown the photograph of the deceased person.

"They identified the body. The body was dismembered head was found near track whereas the other part was lying on the track," said an officer.

DCP Railways said that the body was found at the offline area in platform area of Sadar Bazar railway station.

The official added that Captain Puri had got his posting and was to be stationed in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.

"From his bag, we found some documents which claimed that he had received treatment in Lucknow. All the things being probed. Initial investigation suggests it is a case of suicide," said DCP Railway adding that the Captain had gone to Lucknow for Medical Basic Course.

Captain Puri's father said it was hard for him to believe that he had committed suicide.

"There is some foul play in the case which should be investigated," said the father, who works as an accountant.

He further said that his son belongings were not touched all things were found intact. The deceased lived with his family in Rohini area.

"In the morning, army officer deboarded the train. Incident was reported after 5-6 hours. We are probing what would have happened in the meantime of deboarding the train and incident," police

said.

A train attendant was questioned in this regard who told investigators that in the morning he found army officer sleeping on the berth.

"The attendant said Diwakar Puri that train reached the destination.

The attendant then went to other coaches. Later when he returned deceased's luggage was found lying on the seat but Diwakar was not there," police said.

DCP Railway said that they found CCTV footage in which it can be seen that army officer is walking on the track.
