Army jawan posted at Rashtrapati Bhawan kills self
new delhi: An Army jawan killed himself in the barracks of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, a police official said on Wednesday.
Police identified the deceased as Tek Bahadur Thapa Magar, a native of Nepal. He died by hanging himself in the barrack of Gorkha Rifles at RP Bhawan. Police said that he was suffering from lower back pain and blockage of veins. He was performing duty as in-charge for a while.
As per police, an eyewitness stated that when he returned from his duty at about 3:30 am and turned on the light, he saw Tek Bahadur's body hanging in the room.
According to police, he raised alarm and with the help of colleagues, cut down the rope and shifted him to Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt where he was declared dead. On preliminary enquiry, it is found that he was suffering from acute pain and high blood pressure.
A recent report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Accidental deaths and Suicide in India 2019 shows that over 2,500 people in Delhi died by suicide last year.
