Arms, liquor and cash seized in pre-election ops
NEW DELHI: In preparation for the Legislative Assembly Elections, the Delhi Police have intensified enforcement measures to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polls. Adhering strictly to the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, the police have adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Between January 7 and 13, extensive operations targeted arms smuggling, illicit liquor distribution, and other activities that could disrupt the electoral process. Vigilance at inter-state borders has been heightened, resulting in the registration of 155 cases for Model Code violations.
The police have seized 105 unlicensed weapons, 78 cartridges, and 16,315.82 litres of alcohol. Anti-drug operations led to the confiscation of 57.55 kilograms of narcotics valued at over ₹12 crore. Additionally, unaccounted cash totalling ₹1.02 crore and 37.39 kilograms of silver were intercepted.
Preventive actions saw 6,371 individuals arrested under various provisions, ensuring the maintenance of law and order. A police spokesperson reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
These robust efforts, aligned with Election Commission directives, underscore the importance of upholding democratic principles.
