Amity University student held for threatening another with revolver

Noida: Police on Friday arrested a 24-year old student of Amity University in Sector-125 of Noida for threatening another student by brandishing a revolver on him following a bicker inside university campus, around a month ago.

According to police, the matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on the social media. The incident took place on Thursday at around 3 pm outside the university campus. The accused identified as Surya Kumar Yadav, a resident of Dasna in Ghaziabad, was seen brandishing a pistol on another student of the university who was travelling in the car.

As per the complainant, Vivek Yadav, a native of village Sarfabad in Noida, the accused is a student of final year B.com (Hons) at the university. An argument broke out between them around a month ago when the students were not allowed to bring their vehicle inside the university campus but Surya was drunk and got his car inside the campus and hit victim's leg which triggered the fight between them.

"After I reported about the matter to a teacher, Surya was given warning which bothered him and he threatened me to face the consequences. On Thursday, while I was parking my car outside the university, Surya saw me and blocked my way with his car. Our cars collided and my car bumper broke off," said Vivek.

"He then came out from the car and began chasing me and he somehow managed to latch on the window of my car but I kept driving. He then brandished a pistol at me and kept abusing and threatening to kill me," added Vivek. Later, the victim approached the police and according to the Amit Kumar Singh, Station Officer of Sector-39 police station said that following the complaint and CCTV evidences Surya was arrested on Friday morning from Ghaziabad.

Police said that there was no firing but only brandishing done by Surya. Police have registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal code," said police officials.

According to Amity University spokesperson, Surya was suspended from the varsity last year which delayed his examinations. "Surya was yet to give his backlog exams and his course was supposed to end in 2017 but he was expelled just before his exams," said Savita Mehta, Vice-President, communication, Amity university.
