'Always worried about safety of women in Delhi'

NEW DELHI: The Chief Minister said he is always worried about women safety in Delhi and though Delhi Police does not come under the jurisdiction of the elected Delhi government, but the government is doing all that it can to take effective steps on women safety.

Kejriwal said currently the work of installing CCTV cameras in residential areas of Delhi is going on, and residents, particularly women are happy at this work being done.

"I would like to appeal to all women of Delhi that get CCTV cameras installed in your localities wherever you want and the government will provide as many cameras as you want. I am told by women that this step is providing a sense of security, therefore the government will leave no stone unturned for the success of this important step," said Arvind Kejriwal.

Arvind Kejriwal said the people of Delhi had five years ago elected one amongst them as their Chief Minister and this is the biggest strength of this government, and this is only due to the Constitution provided to us by Baba Saheb Ambedkar that a common man can be a Chief Minister.

"I don't come from any political family and I am a common man, that is why I am able to understand your problems and solve them. I know how much a common man has to struggle to run a family, I have seen my parents struggle, I have struggled myself and I know how difficult it is make two ends meet," Kerjiwal said.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the process of installing 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi is already underway. Two thousand cameras are being installed in each constituency, he told reporters.

"Delhi has become the first city in the world where the government is installing nearly three lakh CCTVs in one go to ensure women safety and to provide a major push to infrastructure," Kejriwal said.

The decision to install 1.4 lakh additional CCTV cameras was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister.

cameras has been "overwhelmingly positive", he said, adding that it is helping local authorities to nab thieves and miscreants.
