Ahead of this year's Kanwar Yatra, UP Chief Secy, DGP hold review meeting

Greater Noida: Ahead of this year's Kanwar Yatra, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police, on Sunday, held a review meeting at expo Center in Greater Noida in order to discuss preparedness and other arrangements. Senior police officials from Delhi, Haryana and Uttarakhand were also present in the meeting.

Chief Secretary, Anup Chandra Pandey said that the meeting was meant to develop coordination among the officials of different adjoining states.

"All the senior officials from Meerut Zone in Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states were called to be a part of meeting. During the meeting majorly we discussed the preparations and the pending work that needed to be done. We discussed the condition of roads, diversion of traffic, Irrigation Department works, Health Department, Electricity department works, sanitation arrangements," said Pandey.

"We have directed the officials to ensure that the devotees who will come from all the adjoining regions must not face any inconvenience and they must also check the route which will be followed for the Kanwar Yatra. We also ordered ADG, IG, DM, and SSP to visit the spots personally to review the situations," added Pandey.

Apart from this, the officials also had discussion over the security arrangements to ensure safety of the devotees. DGP Uttar Pradesh, OP Singh, said that drones and helicopters will be used to keep a close watch on the Kanwar Yatra.

"Police officials will be monitoring the Kanwar Yatra while companies of Para militarily forces, Rapid Action Force and PSC also will be deployed. Apart from these, two Anti Terrorist Squad teams will be deployed in Meerut and one will remain mobile in between Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar. These squads will be using Snipers to ensure safety and special watch will be kept on the criminals and their activities," said Singh.

This year, the month long Kanwar Yatra will being from July 17 when devotees will travel to Haridwar in Uttarakhand to collect holy water from Ganga.
