After top cop's order, security beefed up on major routes in Gurugram
Gurugram: The 3,500 strong police force in Gurugram has taken the order of top cop KK Rao seriously that the police officials will now be found on city roads than the stations. Police barricades have been placed on major city routes like MG road, Sohna Road, New Railway road, Gurugram-Faridabad road and IFFCO Chowk.
The top cop has also emphasised that to prevent rising crime and manage the traffic, there will be heavy police presence on city roads and if required there will also be checking and friskings to ensure that no nefarious activities take place. In highlighting that these measures are being undertaken to ensure the safety of the citizens, the Gurugram police commissioner has also sought citizen's cooperation in allowing law enforcement officials to perform their duties.
Irrespective of Haryana government making snatching a non bailable offence, two snatchings occur daily in the city. The fact that there has been no decrease in these criminal acts can be gauged from the fact that 80 percent of the snatching cases remain unsolved. The brazen acts of snatching are not only reported from the desolate areas but also from the crowded parts of the city. Further, there are eight vehicles that are stolen on an average each day from the streets of Gurugram.
It has been long since MG road which is also known as the mall mile become notorious with lots of criminal activities. In the past besides brazen incident of women being molested, there has been a shootout in the mall and a vehicle trying to run over a police official.
However, what can prove to be a major challenge for law enforcement officials in the city is the extension of crimes to densely populated, tony neighbourhoods of the city.
Incident of car being robbed at gun-point on Golf Course road is a major concern for law enforcement officials. Famous for having the most expensive residential and commercial properties, the area continues to witness the growth of traffic with it being made into signal free road.
In the two incidents, the burglars at gun-point were able to rob an Audi car from a businessman and subsequently a vehicle was also stolen from the banker.
Moreover, the mushrooming of liquor vending units in the major city roads has resulted in the large number of complaints by the women night shift workers of the insecurity posed to them who frequent visit these units.
