After questioning 4,000 people, cops nab two for killing woman

New Delhi: After questioning over 4,000 people, Delhi Police on Friday finally nabbed two persons for the murder of a woman in central Delhi's Daryaganj area. Cops claimed that the deceased was the girlfriend of one of the accused, who suspected that she had affair with another person.
The accused, both vagabonds, were identified as Rahul Kumar alias Mohammad Salman (22) and Banti (23).
On May 14, at 07.45 am, a PCR call was received about the body of a woman was found lying in a park near Ghatta Masjid in Daryaganj.
After reaching the spot, cops found that the head of the woman, who was partially clothed, had been crushed seemingly with a rock.
DCP (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa on Friday said that more than 4,000 people, including e-rickshaw and cycle-rickshaw pullers, street hawkers and auto-drivers were questioned.
Moreover, thousands of posters with the photo of the victim were pasted at various police stations of nearby areas.
Finally, the victim was identified to be a ragpicker and labourer, frequently seen at a footpath in north Delhi.
Cops also came to know that she was frequently seen with her boyfriend Rahul Kumar, a tattoo of whose name was partially visible on her right arm.
Randhawa said that Kumar was soon arrested near the Chandni Chowk cycle market.
During investigation, it came to light that in a state of intoxication and anger over her perceied affair, Kumar – along with Banti – decided to kill her.
They used a stone to crush her head to as to make it difficult to ascertain her identity.
The accused also revealed that they had unsuccessfully tried to kill her on May 11 too.
