After father's demise, rift between siblings widened

New Delhi: Despite having properties worth several crores in their name across Delhi, the tension between brothers Jaspal and Gurjeet escalated after the demise of their father Harnam Singh 'Toofan', seven years back in August 2011.
Sources close to the family say that the family of three brothers were embroiled in a property dispute worth several crores and since their father died, Jaspal and Gurjeet had been at loggerheads.
They involved in several court cases and had registered a few FIRs against each other soon after.
"Their father was a well-established man, who had influential political contacts. However, ever since his demise, relations between the two brothers turned sour and frequent quarrels erupted leading to court cases and FIRs in police stations," said a family friend, who wished to remain anonymous.
Sources said that though the recent scuffle that led to the bloodbath seems to have started over parking of cars, the fumes of animosity had been raging for nearly a decade over the business rivalry between the two brothers.
"The family has close to 18 cars, but little parking space in the house. Both brothers never were on good terms and scuffles were common," said another family friend.
Even the neighbours said they had heard the family fighting often. However, little did they know that this would end so viciously.
"We feared to intervene as the brothers did not like to be interrupted in family matters. So we thought not to speak up and mind our own business," said a neighbour.
Thursday's triple murder was a grim reminder of the double murder at Chattarpur farmhouse around six years ago, where liquor baron Ponty Chaddha was murdered in a gunfight with his brother Hardeep, who was also killed on the spot.
The two brothers were embroiled in a bitter property dispute, which culminated in a fierce gun battle in south Delhi in November 2012.
