After clash, forces deployed in Sangam Park to ensure peace

New Delhi: More than 40 personnel of Delhi Police and over 60 of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were on Monday deployed to guard Sangam Park B-block in north west Delhi's Model Town, after a clash broke out between the two communities in the area on Sunday night.

Police said on Monday that the situation is under control, after they held peace meetings with residents.

Locals of the area claimed that the reason behind the tension was a minor scuffle between two youth from different community, during which resulted in minor injuries to several people.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said that both the communities are with peaceful, however they often complain that outsiders create problems.

"I held almost three meetings with them and they have requested me to increase personnel in the police post," said the DCP.

She further stated that the scuffle started on Sunday night over a trivial issue near a mosque, situated 20-30 metres away from the police post, and cops reached the spot on time to resolve the issue.

Residents in Sangam Park claimed that the clash started around 10.30 pm on Sunday, and was brought under control around 11 pm by cops.

On Monday, around 1.30 pm, the area saw forces being deployed in large numbers.

"Five policemen from every police station in the district were at the spot controlling the situation," said the senior police officer.

Sources said that a 50-year-old woman, identified as Rajbala, was injured during the incident. She claimed that she received six stitches after being hit by a stone thrown at her during the clash.

Police said that the woman's claim of stones being pelted is been investigated. Some other residents claimed that abuses were hurled at people during the unease

"One Manu was beaten up by some persons. I wanted to save him, but they also beat me," said Deepak, a resident in the area. Nazia, another resident, claimed that her husband was injured in the incident.

Khan further said that a resident Manoj, who was injured during the incident, was saved by another resident Salim.

"So far we have not received any police complaint in this regard," she added.
