After brief encounter, criminal held near Khajuri Khas flyover

New Delhi: After a brief encounter, the Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a robber near Khajuri Khas flyover on May 28.

Police identified the accused as Rohtash. He was injured during the encounter. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said that at about 11 pm, accused Rohtash came on the motorcycle from Bhajanpura side.

He was signalled to stop but he sped his bike and moved towards Garhi Mendu side.

"Accused Rohtash lost his balance on the bike. Police team moved forward to apprehend him but he pulled out his pistol and fired at the police team," added DCP special cell.

The investigating agency also fired back in self-defence. Rohtash fired three rounds from his pistol and police team fired eight rounds in retaliation.

One of the bullets hit the chest of a member of a police team but he was saved as he was wearing a bulletproof jacket.

"When police fired in self-defence, one of the bullet hit the right hand of accused Rohtash. Thereafter, accused was immediately taken to the GTB Hospital for medical treatment," police said.

Police further added that Rohtash has earlier been involved in 5 cases of dacoity, robbery and attempt to murder.

He was previously involved in robbery cum murder case of MS Park police station of 2011 in which he robbed 10 lakh from a recovery agent and shot him dead. He was also involved in dacoity case of the finance company in the area of Pandav Nagar of 2011.

Last year he along with his associates robbed a cash agent of Rupee 18 Lakh from near IP Park in Sunlight Colony police station. One of his relatives gave information regarding the movement of cash.

Rahul was earlier involved in the robbery of cash amounting to Rs 40 lakh along with accused his associate in the area of Pandav Nagar police station on 21 Feb 2019 in which a shootout took place near Akshardham temple between police and accused persons.
