Afghan national arrested at IGIA with gold worth over Rs 45 lakh
New Delhi: An Afghan national has been arrested at Delhi airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth over Rs 45 lakh by hiding it in his footwear, an official said on Sunday.
Additional Commissioner of Customs, Amandeep Singh said that the foreign national, who arrived at Terminal 3 of the IGI Airport from Kabul on Friday, was intercepted by the Customs officials.
The custom officers recovered two cut pieces of gold bags collectively weighing 1,315 grams worth about Rs 45,44,620, Amandeep Singh said
The gold has been seized and the person arrested under relevant provisions of the Customs Act.
Recently a man was arrested at the Delhi airport upon his arrival from Moscow for allegedly smuggling gold bars and gold wires worth more than 29 lakh by concealing them in his underclothes.
