New Delhi: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) – the student wing of right-wing organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh – along with several students of the Faculty of Law at Delhi University, staged a protest against the detainment of the Faculty's 457 students on account of alleged shortage in their attendance.
According to ABVP, a 'detained list', which contains names of as many as 457 law students from Campus Law Centre (CLC), Law Centre-I and Law Centre-II, was displayed at the Faculty of Law, in DU's North Campus.
Bharat Khatana, Delhi State Secretary, ABVP, said on Wednesday, "The dean of the Faculty of Law is acting like a dictator and is running the law faculty as per her whims and fancies."
"She says that 70 per cent is the attendance criterion then why students with even 50 per cent have not been detained," he added.
He further said that teachers themselves often boycott classes and even faculty appointments were going on.
"Due to this, classes did not take place and now students have to pay a price for that," Khatana claimed.
The agitating students further alleged that the Faculty of Law regularly witnesses agitation inside North Campus.
"These agitations are sometimes for the change of exam centers. Sometimes, the computers are stolen from the office. The dean has filed cases against 33 students," Khatana stated.
He further said that the students tried to talk with the dean, but the administration have deployed police, who are not allowing the students to enter her office.
The protestors also demanded that the entrance test for the postgraduate courses in the University should be conducted in both online and offline mode.
