AAP raises questions about increasing number of stubble burning incidence in neighbouring states

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) asked the Centre five questions on stubble burning. Senior leaders of the party raised questions about increasing number of stubble burning incidence in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.

Senior AAP leader Atishi said, "Today from the behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party I want to ask five questions to union environment minister Prakash Javadekar. Being the environment minister of India, it is his responsibility to answer the question to people that how his government is working to combat the air pollution situation in India."

She also said that we are aware of the fact that pollution has reached the emergency level. Delhi, NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Orissa all these states are witnessing thick smog.

"My first question is what the central government has done to curb the stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana. According to the affidavit filed by the central government, it is noted that they have distributed only 63,000 machines as an alternative to the stubble whereas the total number of farmers is approximately 22 lakh," she added.

Atishi also asked, "My second question to him is that why the central government in the last 5 months has not called any multi-state meeting with all the environment ministers of the NCR states on the issue of air pollution. My third question is according to the NASA satellite images all the north Indian states are reeling around thick smog and the air-quality has reached emergency level. Why the central government in the last five days has not called any emergency meeting on this issue with all the environment ministers of the north Indian states."

She also asked, "My fourth question is when will the central government call an emergency meeting with all the environment ministers of north Indian states and I want to know the answer today. And my fifth question is this year we have witnessed the pollution, therefore, I want to know for the next year what is the time-bound plan of the central government to combat the stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana because due to the stubble burning not only Delhi but also half of India is facing severe air pollution."

Adding to Atishi's statements, AAP senior leader Raghav Chadha said, "Delhi is witnessing severe air pollution and the reason behind it is the stubble burning in the neighbourhood states. It is not something that the Aam Aadmi Party is claiming but various institutions have accepted the fact. First the SAFAR has said that 46% of Delhi's pollution this year is due to the stubble burning; an autonomous agency IIPM has said 70% of Delhi's pollution is caused by the stubble burning, the central government in its affidavit to the Supreme Court has accepted the stubble burning as one of the prime reasons behind this air pollution."
