8-year-old raped in Gurugram

Gurugram: A minor of 8 years of age was sexually assaulted by an unidentified person in Rajiv Nagar area of Gurugram. The incident came to light when the rape survivor addressed her ordeal to her parents on Tuesday.
Immediately after hearing the grievance, her parents got her medically tested which was confirmed. The police have registered the case and begun investigation based on the description provided by the minor. In her statement, she has mentioned that she was enticed with chocolate, abducted and then sexually assaulted.
The incident has once again highlighted the dismal picture of rising crimes against children. Witnessing a sudden rise in 2017, more than 100 cases of sexual crimes were registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. In 2016 the total number was 106 under this act.
The danger of this crime was further revealed in the gruesome crimes that took place last year where decomposed bodies of children including a 5-year-old were recovered from the posh localities like Sushant Lok and Civil Lines. In another case, a 10-year-old girl was found raped and murdered. Officials said the girl was abducted from her locality, kept in a secluded place and gang-raped her on multiple times by a culprit along with his two accomplices. Fearing that their criminal acts will come out in the open, they strangulated the girl and dumped her body in a water tank. There has also been a case where a 64-year-old grandfather was arrested for raping his granddaughter.
