55-year-old injured after jumping in front of Metro
New Delhi: A 55-year-old man was injured after he allegedly jumped on to the tracks and was hit by a moving train at Uttam Nagar East station on the Delhi Metro's Blue Line.
Police said that the victim was undergoing treatment for depression. According to police, on Wednesday a PCR call was received at Janakpuri Metro police station regarding jumping of a passenger in front of running metro at Uttam Nagar East Metro Station platform number 1.
During the inquiry, it was found that a person identified as Sanjeev Oberoi, resident of Vikaspuri jumped in front of running metro and was taken to DDU Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Vikram Porwal said that the victim was unfit for the statement. The patient was being shifted to BL Kapoor Hospital by his family.
"His family has informed that he was undergoing treatment for depression. Further enquiry in progress," said DCP Metro.
The DMRC also tweeted to alert passengers: Blue Line Update Delay in services between Dwarka Sector 21 and Rajiv Chowk due to a passenger on track at Uttam Nagar East. Normal service on all other lines.
The incident took place on the eve of the World Mental Health Day that will be observed this year with the theme "working together to prevent suicide".
