4-year-old critical after being raped, dumped into water tank, 1 arrested

Gurugram: A four-year-old was raped by a 34-year-old construction worker, tortured and then dumped in the tank so that she can die by suffocation in Gurugram. She was rescued in the nick of time and is in a critical state in a hospital.

According to law enforcement officials, the accused, a construction worker, was working at the site when he saw the minor girl playing there. He allegedly took the girl to the basement of the building and raped her.

The unconscious girl was dumped in a water tank and the accused fled from the spot. The minor was later rescued by other construction workers and was rushed to the hospital.

The girl's parents also worked in the same construction site, but they were busy with their work when the culprit took the child down to the basement and raped her.

The hospital authorities informed police after examining the child and confirming that the minor girl was raped.

The accused was arrested within seven hours of the case being registered.

"We have arrested and he will be charged under the relevant sections. The minor girl is being treated at the hospital and we pray for her speedy recovery," said a senior police official from Gurugam police.

The incident has again proved to be a stark reminder of how unsafe Gurugram is becoming for its children. According to official data, there is a sexual crime that happens against a minor every fourth day.

In a more disturbing trend that came forward, it was revealed that Gurugram also leads in a number of sexual assault cases against the minors.

There were 354 cases registered under the protection of children from sexual offences Act (POCSO). Co-incidentally the figures were way lower that Faridabad that has total cases of 412 cases of sexual crimes against minors.
