33-year-old kingpin of SSC online cheating racket arrested

New Delhi: A 33-year-old man, suspected to be the mastermind in Staff Selection Commission (SSC) cheating racket has been arrested, Delhi Police said on Sunday.
The law enforcement agency claimed that the accused is an upper division clerk in Trade and Tax department in Delhi government. He was identified as Harpal Singh, a resident of north west Delhi's Gandhi Vihar.
DCP (Crime) Rajesh Deo stated that the accused had been working as an upper division clerk in the Trade and Tax department, since 2008.
Singh is reportedly the brains behind the computer-based cheating and the tenth person to have been arrested in this case. The breakthrough in the case came in March with the arrest of a gang of four persons, who helped candidates in the SSC online exam by using remote access tools like Team Viewer.
The arrest was made by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police, in a joint operation with Delhi Police from North Delhi's Timarpur.
This gang is alleged to have a nexus with the examination centres and computer labs across various cities.
It was further revealed that these labs are outsourced by the SSC for conducting the examination.
It was revealed that prospective candidates were lured and amounts to the tune of Rs 5-10 lakh was charged from each of them.
The gang used to further tie up with these candidates regarding their centres of examination.
