30K premises in S Delhi still home to mosquito breeding

New Delhi: Nearly 30,000 premises in South Delhi are still home to mosquito breeding, despite continuous efforts by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to prevent such breeding and spread awareness about dangers of leaving areas unchecked for mosquito breeding.

According to the SDMC, there are 29,719 premises under their jurisdiction where mosquito breeding has been detected. Sounding alarm, the municipality urged that public involvement in curbing this menace is extremely crucial to prevent and control vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya through control of mosquitoes.

The SDMC recently carried out an intensive drive to check office complexes, markets and construction sites and found that 23.5 percent of construction sites, 16 percent of office complexes and 13 percent of marketplaces have let their premises become a breeding ground for Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes.

Some places where mosquito breeding has been detected are the Government Girls Senior Secondary School-2, A Block, Janak Puri, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) in Raja Garden, MTNL office, Vishal Enclave, CRPF School in Dwarka-Sector 16, CRPF Camp, Jhroda Kalan, Mother's Pride School Dwarka-Sector 17, Police Station in Dwarka-Sector 23, Fire Station in Dwarka-Sector 16, Horticulture Department, Bhijwasan, CGHS Dispensary, Saadh Nagar, Sector 12 Market in Dwarka, Furniture Market, Najafgarh, DMRC Construction Site at Delhi Gate, Construction Site at GMR Airport Authority, Airport, Construction Site at Terminal 3 Airport, Sarai Kale Khan Market, Lajpat Nagar Market, East of Kailash, Kalkaji Market and others.
