3 inebriated men run over by train in Nangloi

NEW DELHI: Three persons were run over by an express train in Delhi's Nangloi. The trio was crossing on the railway tracks and were having alcohol, according to Railway police.

The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Verma, a resident of Prem Nagar, Delhi, Sushil, a resident of Mangolpuri and one remained unknown. The police are trying to verify his identity.

"The incident happened around 7.15 am when they were trying to cross the railway track near Nangloi and were run over by the Bikaner-Delhi Express," Northern Railway Spokesperson Deepak Kumar said.

Railway Protection Force along with the Government Railway Police and Delhi Police were looking into it. The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem and the relatives of the deceased were informed. Police are trying to find some eyewitness in the case to know how the accident happened. It is also said that the trio was consuming alcohol while crossing railway track. Some bottles were also found on the tracks.

The police are looking into the matter. Sometime back, on the eve of Dusshera, 59 people were run over by train in Amritsar. The crowd that swelled on the railway tracks failed to move in time when the train came on the tracks. The tragedy has also exposed certain loopholes how safety measures were ignored while giving permission to the event.
