3 held with heroin worth Rs 100 crore

New Delhi: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested three men from near the Barapulla flyover and recovered heroin worth Rs 100 crore from them.

The heroin was smuggled in India from Myanmar through the Manipur border. Police identified the accused as Mohammad Hashim (32), Mohammad Sabbir (49) and Naresh Kumar (49).

They have concealed the heroin in secret cavities in the car in which they had arrived in the city.

"On Sunday, police got a tip-off that three persons had collected big consignment of heroin from Assam and have arrived in the national capital to supply it," police said.

They were supposed to deliver the drugs near Lajpat Nagar between 11 pm to 12 am. A trap was laid near Barapulla flyover loop towards Lajpat Nagar and the accused who came there in a car were arrested, the DCP said.

They were searched and a total of 15 kilograms of drugs was recovered from them. During the search of the car, another 10 kilograms of heroin recovered from the specially designed cavities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said that the consignment of heroin was procured by accused from a person in Bokajan, Assam.

They have disclosed to have supplied more than 200 kgs heroin to the drug peddlers in Delhi and adjoining states during last one year. A team under ACP (Special Cell) made the arrests in the case.

"During last one year, it has been noticed that this is a new route for smuggling of heroin from Myanmar via Manipur, Assam, Bihar to states of North India including Delhi has emerged," said DCP Kushwah.
