3 arrested for selling spurious water in Bisleri bottles in Dwarka district

New Delhi: To earn money, some shopkeepers have opted several ways and this time they have been found selling spurious water in Bisleri bottles in Dabri area.

Delhi Police has received a complaint in this regard and during the investigation, they arrested three persons. According to police, the complainant, Ashish Luthra, Manager, Enforcement of Bisleri International, reported about the sale of spurious water under the brand name of Bisleri by counterfeiting jars of water by some unknown companies, firms, persons in the jurisdiction of Dwarka District.

The complainant alleged that sale of spurious water in the name of Bisleri is the violation of the Copy Right Act. "The fake goods are being sold to several innocent customers who are being cheated by various retailers in buying the product considering as genuine. By the unlawful activity, the accused are risking the lives of several customers," the complainant told police.

Police claimed that on September 10, at the instance of the complainant, the officials of Dwarka district conducted raids at various shops. The first was situated in Som Bazar Road, Raja Puri and from there four jars of 20-litre spurious Bisleri water, 120 Bisleri caps, one heat gun, one blue colour handle were recovered. Another raid took place in Viswas Park in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi. From there, 10 jars of 20 -litre of spurious Bisleri water were recovered.

According to investigators, the owners of both the shops namely Vijay Awasthi and Sulekh Jain were asked about the documents of copyright but they failed to produce the required documents.

Accordingly, a case under section 63/65 Copy Right Act, 1957 (Amendment Ac 1984 and 1994) has been registered against the two men and later both the accused were arrested and released on bail. Further investigation is in progress.
