Gurugram: Cases of rape are not uncommon in Gurugram. However, recent cases have shocked the society. After there were reports of a father raping his 13-year-old daughter for 6 months and making her believe it is normal, a 26-year-old has been accused of raping a 47-year-old deaf and mute widow.
The latest case has been reported from Sikanderpur. The police have filed a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and begun their investigations. As of now, no arrests have been made in the case.
According to the law enforcement officials, her tormentor committed the sexual assault when she wanted to access the common toilet.
Adding more shame, there were two more complaints of sexual assaults against minors in the city.
While crimes against minors are a big challenge for law enforcement officials other aspects of crime against women also continue to be a big problem.
As per the police records, last year 123 cases of rapes and 295 incidents of molestation were reported officially. All these figures are way above the figures recorded in the previous years.
"It is unfair to target the police every time. Yes, there are times we commit mistakes but most of the rape cases have been solved by us.
"A greater emphasis must also be paid to change the regressive mindset of some members of the society," said a senior official from Gurugram police.
