22-yr-old jilted lover nabbed for murdering girl in Alipur
New Delhi: A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly killing his girlfriend in north west Delhi's Alipur area. Police claimed that the accused was obsessed with the 17-year-old victim, whose name he had marked on his hand through the sharp object.
They further said that the girl wanted to discontinue the relationship, which culminated in the accused Jitender Kumar murdering her.
Cops added they are waiting for post-mortem report to determine whether the girl was sexually assaulted.
The teenager's parents had filed a police complaint that she had gone missing from north Delhi's Burari on Monday.
A case was immediately registered and cops scanned records of all unidentified bodies and missing person complaints.
A body was found in Alipur the next morning and it was identified to be that of the girl.
After analysing call detail records of the victim's phone number, it was found that she had last talked to Kumar.
Through technical analysis of the phone, Burari police found Kumar's whereabouts, detained him on Wednesday, and questioned him, in the course of which he spilled the beans. Kumar told police that he had been in a relationship with the girl since January.
"Initially, the two were friends and then they were in a relationship. Lately, the girl wanted to discontinue the relationship as she was reportedly talking to someone else. However, the accused was against ending the relationship," said a senior police officer.
On Monday, the girl called up Kumar and decided to meet at their usual meeting spot in the forested area of Alipur near the canal.
Even after spending hours, the two could not resolve their differences and, in a fit of rage, Kumar pushed her off the fencing wall they were sitting on.
The girl sustained injuries on her face and lost consciousness, police said, but was not yet dead.
Kumar then reportedly dragged her to the bushes and strangulated her to death.
He even punched her face a few times so that she could not be identified, cops added.
To make it difficult for the police to identify her, Kumar also stole the girl's bag and cell phone.
"The accused wanted to check the details of the girl's call records to know with who she was talking," an officer said.
