Gurugram: Twenty two people had a narrow escape, after a wayward truck rammed into the bus they were travelling in on Wednesday morning.
The mishap occurred at Sultanpur village near Gurugram around 8.30 am, when the speeding truck hit the front of the private bus, which was travelling from Gurugram to Farukhnagar,
Sources said that fourteen of the passengers, including women, children and senior citizens, had sustained serious injuries and were admitted in the nearby hospital. Later in the day, their condition was reported to be stable.
Gurugram police said they have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life) of the Indian penal code against the offending truck driver.
Based on the condition of some of the victim, the district police are considering adding section 338 (causing grievous hurt) to the FIR as well.
"The weather conditions may have been a factor, but the main reason for the accident was the reckless driving by the truck driver, who did not heed to proper safety procedures," said Inspector Ravinder Kumar, spokesperson, Gurugram police.
