2 doctors test +ve

New Delhi: The number of healthcare workers testing positive for COVID-19 in Delhi continued with two more cases of doctors coming at the forefront.

One doctor of Kasturba Gandhi Hospital was tested positive of the virus. A total two doctors have been tested positive so far.

Meanwhile, one doctor of Hindu Rao Hospital was also tested positive, officials confirmed on Saturday. A total of three healthcare workers, including two nurses have been tested positive so far. However, the doctor who has been tested was already in quarantine.

Last week, two nurses of the hospital were tested positive for the disease. After the first nurse tested positive last Saturday, samples of 78 other staffers, including the doctor, were sent for testing. Reports of 11 staffers are awaited, said officials.

On the other hand, four primary contacts of a Covid-positive ward helper of the Rajan Babu TB Hospital in GTB Nagar have tested negative for the virus, officials said here on Saturday. "All primary contacts of the ward helper, who is COVID-positive, of RBIPMT have tested negative. Four persons were tested," an official of the north body said.

Healthcare workers who are the forefront of the pandemic have been badly hit with the number of cases surpassing 290. This has raised the issue of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and other safety gear. According to many medical professions working at the frontline, the quality of PPE kits is the major issue why so many healthcare workers are getting affected.

"It's like no one is ready to talk about adequate safety gear. We on the other hand are also getting targeted," said a resident doctor of a government hospital. "We are also getting bad quality PPE, which is more dangerous, for it gets torn after wearing it for a few hours only," added the resident doctor.

Meanwhile, the AIIMS has made it mandatory for patients to wear masks while visiting the emergency or other patient-care areas in the hospital and will provide one to anybody who does not have a mask.
